Spring Cleaning can allow that new room with what you have right now...

It’s that time of year again, spring cleaning! Most people clean out their closets and drawers. Why not this year go for a little more and give yourself that new living space you already have the components for….

With these simple steps you can take spring cleaning to another level.

  • De-clutter ( I mean DE-CLUTTER, old is still OLD)

The easiest way to start is to remove all items from your home that are no longer needed. For many of us, these items simple are nothing more than left around your beautiful home. Anything that has not been touched or used for 12 months will need a new home. There are two places where these items can go, one is to recycle and the other is the trash. For example, old magazines that have been lying around can be recycled. Most of the information from magazines is now available online, so LET IT GO…. The items that have sentimental value or actual heritage you may want to keep can be stored and always be brought back out for later use.

  • Rearranging What You Have (not only cost savvy but great for the environment!!!)

The second step to giving your space a new look is rearranging. It is one of the simplest things you can do to a room and talk about no excuses. By moving the sofa to the opposite side of a room not only does it change the space, but it also creates a new appeal. Moving furniture around can change a room from looking compact to looking spacious and light and make you feel like you just purchased all new furniture.

  •  Accessorize Not Clutter!!!

The Final polish on your new room and sprucing up is to change your accessories. Simple can create a whole new feel, whether if you are attracted contemporary or wine house rustic.  Accessories add that special touch and splash of color to a room.  Vibrant pillows, collected vintage or candles all are accessories and make a statement about you so why not get them out there. Often people think Art or Mirrors are all that go on bare walls, shelves are a great alternative and also allow for more display and housing. If you do have WHITE walls, or you’re just tired of the current wall color give yourself permission to add color, IT IS JUST PAINT and can be easily undone and believe it or not black is the new red dining room wall, so go for it…

Photographs are a fabulous inexpensive art and give a room character. Whether the photographs are sentimental, from a special vacation or abstract they set the mood of a space. One option is to select multiple sizes but use all in a black and white tone or mix color with sepia. Another is to print in extremely large scale and you have art.. Not only can you accessorize with photographs, but the frame becomes another aspect that can add to a room.

My wish for this blossoming season is that you are now motivated to start your own spring cleaning and give yourself that room you have been thinking about and already have...

Till the next journey,
Carly

Featured in February Issue of San Diego Home and Garden

This Beautiful Home is a Prime Example of Timeless Design, this residence was completed over four years ago and for it to be featured now 2011 shows you the power of working with a professional and keeping the integrity of creating a look that will remain timeless. It is always my goal when working with my homeowners for them to not only love their final results of their home but to also make their investment last by creating an essence that will look contemporary for at least the next 10 years and I truly felt that this home accomplished that. Another aspect that is featured here and I want to elaborate on is this style of concrete floor, for most consumers it is just now taking on in market in the design world. My point in bringing this to your attention is to encourage you to go for aspects in design that everyone else IS NOT DOING, have faith that if you truly love the feel it is right and that is all that truly matters. I would love to hear your thoughts.
